Local Master Gardeners are hosting an Earth Day & Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, April 19, 2025, in Lenoir. The event is free and will be at the City of Lenoir Unity Park & Community Gardens.
“Celebrating Earth Day and Arbor Day emphasizes the importance of the health of our planet and ourselves,” Master Gardener David Horn said. “Unity Park & Community Gardens is the perfect spot for the event. It’s a place where we grow healthy food and where we protect greenspace in Lenoir.”
The Earth Day & Arbor Day Celebration will be from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. The public can come explore the gardens and enjoy free presentations and music. There will be info booths about 4-H clubs, beekeepers, mushroom growing, recycling, and more. Visitors can buy herbs and plants from vendors and take home one free tree per family, while supplies last.
“We’ll have lots of people talking about conservation, gardening, and horticulture,” Horn said. “If you have a question about gardening or growing things, I bet someone at our celebration will know the answer.”
The Earth Day & Arbor Day Celebration is the first of several events the Master Gardeners have planned for the gardens.
“We’re going to host many more events to promote healthy lifestyles,” Horn said. “Being outside, being active, and eating fresh food, rather than processed food, leads to a healthier and happier life.”
Visitors will also be able to buy food and drinks at the event. There will be chicken wings and veggie quesadillas for $5.00 each (CASH ONLY).

Take a free tree or shrub home to plant and help make our community cleaner and greener. There will be Buttonbush shrubs, Arrowwood viburnum shrubs, Eastern Redbud trees, and Shumard Oak trees. One plant per household, while supplies last.
