Since November 2024, the Lenoir Police Department has been actively investigating a series of wire thefts targeting AT&T lines across the City of Lenoir and Caldwell County. Multiple AT&T sites have been affected during this time, with wiring being stolen or cut which led to widespread service disruptions. In some instances, the damage temporarily disabled 911 emergency services. AT&T officials estimate the total loss to exceed $130,000.
The department’s Criminal Investigations Division has led a comprehensive investigation involving surveillance operations, analysis of security footage and photographs, interviews, and the execution of search warrants. Evidence indicates that the stolen wires were stripped of their metal, likely to be sold for profit. Investigators are continuing to track down where the stolen materials may have been sold.
As a result of these efforts, the following individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with the thefts.
Norman Wesley Ward, of Lenoir, Rocky Dwain Fowler III of Granite Falls, Jason Matthew Libera of Granite Falls, Gregory Lee Triplett of Granite Falls, Joshua Cody Crump of Granite Falls, and Logan Nathaniel Brown of Granite Falls.
The case remains active, and additional charges are expected.
The Lenoir Police Department extends its sincere appreciation to the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office for its ongoing support in the investigation.
AT&T officials issued the following statement: “Acts of theft and damage to critical communications infrastructure create service disruptions
that impact our customers, public safety, and the wider community,” said Trey Rabon, President, AT&T North Carolina. “We appreciate the dedication and hard work of the Lenoir Police Department and local law enforcement as they work to bring those responsible to justice.”
