Hickory man wanted in standoff now in custody. Teen found safe

A Hickory man who was involved in a police standoff in Conover on Thursday but was able to escape, turned himself in to Catawba County authorities on Friday. 

James Wallace (Jim) Jernigan is currently facing charges of Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon and Felony Larceny of a Vehicle stemming from outstanding warrants. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected.

Also recovered on Friday was 15 year old Hope Carroll. Carroll was located at a residence in northern Catawba County following a tip concerning her possible whereabouts.

No further information is available at this time regarding Carroll’s involvement with Jernigan.

Jernigan is being held in the Catawba County Detention Center under no bond. His first appearance in court is Monday May 19th.
