Caldwell County Economic Development and Caldwell County Schools recently received the 2025 Partnership Award by the North Carolina Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education Center (SMT). This prestigious award recognizes outstanding collaborations that connect education with workforce and economic development across North Carolina.
A key driver of this achievement is Workforce Wednesdays. This innovative program introduces educators to high-demand careers while aligning local educational pathways with the needs of Caldwell County’s thriving industries. Developed through a collaborative effort between Caldwell County Economic Development, Caldwell County Schools, and Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute, the initiative strengthens the
talent pipeline across the region.
Each year, a cohort of middle and high school educators participates in a guided exploration of four critical economic sectors:
• Health Sciences and Human & Public Services
• Advanced Manufacturing
• Construction Trades and Wood & Textile Manufacturing
• Biopharma and Life Sciences
This hands-on exposure equips educators with insights into real-world opportunities and the skills needed to succeed in today’s job market, while also giving local employers a stronger connection to their future workforce.
Ashley Bolick, Caldwell County Economic Development Director, states:
“Workforce Wednesdays shows the incredible impact we can make when educators and industry leaders collaborate. By immersing teachers in Caldwell County’s key economic sectors, we’re giving them the tools to bring real-world relevance back to their classrooms. We’re not only preparing students for meaningful careers—we’re strengthening the long-term economic vitality of Caldwell County. This recognition from the
SMT Center affirms the value of that partnership and the power of investing in our future workforce.”
