Burke County Sheriff’s office has released a statement regarding the shooting that happened yesterday morning and around 10:00 a.m. on Piney Road near Smith Road in Morganton.
When deputies arrived they found a male conscious and breathing with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. The victim was shot during an altercation with a known suspect. The victim was able to identify the suspect but also stated that he did not want to prosecute. Both the victim and the suspect have yet to be identified, but it’s reported that both men involved are cousins.
The victim was transported to UNC Health Blue Ridge with non-life threatening injuries. The Burke County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the shooting suspect, but currently there are no reports of his apprehension.
