PRESS RELEASE: Burke County Sheriff’s Department, Sunday 06/01/2025
On May 31, 2025, at approximately 5:45 p.m., the Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting in the area of Kathy Road and McAlpine Avenue in Morganton. Upon arrival, deputies found that one victim with a gunshot injury had been transported by a personal vehicle to UNC Health Blueridge. This victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
There was a second gunshot victim located on scene and he was transported by Burke County EMS to UNC Health Blueridge. A third gunshot victim refused medical treatment and had a non-life threating injury. The North Carolina State Bureau of
Investigation responded to assist in processing the crime scene.
The investigation is still on-going. Additional information will be released at a later time. Anyone with information about
