On Sunday, 06/01/2025 at 12:45 a.m. deputies with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Hickory Police Department responded to a report of multiple persons shot at a residence on Walnut Acres Drive, which is located in the Mountain View community of southwest Catawba County.
As of the Sunday morning press release by the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office , twelve (12) victims have been reported. Of the victims, 58 year old Shawn Patrick Hood of Lenoir was reported as deceased. The remaining victims range in age from 16 to 57, with 7 currently hospitalized.
It’s reported that there was a large gathering of approximately 100 people at the the residence prior to the shooting. Authorities have confirmed that there were multiple weapons involved in the incident, with as many as 80 rounds fired.
Sheriff’s investigators along with investigators from Hickory Police Department and Special Agents with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation are attempting to establish a motive and identify those responsible. No arrests have been reported as of 9:00pm Sunday evening.
Authorities have said additional information will be released as this investigation continues.
