Sheriff Kevin Bean reports that a deputy on routine patrol in the Dudley Shoals area attempted to stop a vehicle driving recklessly around 1:00 AM this morning.
The driver refused to stop, leading deputies on a nearly one-hour pursuit through Dudley Shoals, Oak Hill, Deal Mill Road, and into the Sawmills area. Despite running over stop sticks deployed by Alexander County deputies, the suspect continued to flee.
The chase ended at Baird Drive and Mission Road, where deputies took Christopher Derek McNeely, age 40 of Hudson, into custody. The vehicle McNeely was driving was confirmed to be stolen.
“This case is a reminder of the dangers our deputies face during routine patrols. I’m proud of the persistence shown by our deputies and grateful for the assistance of our partners in Alexander County. We will continue working hard to protect our communities and hold offenders accountable.” Sheriff Kevin Bean
McNeely is charged with:
Felony Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle $75,000 secured bond
Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest
Parole Violation No bond
McNeely was recently released from prison in January after serving over 10 years for being
a Habitual Felon.
