City of Hickory celebrates National Park and Recreation Month

Celebrate the 40th annual National Park and Recreation Month with the City of Hickory by exploring 26 local parks, visiting state-of-the-art recreation centers, and participating in multiple summer programs throughout the month of July.

National Park and Recreation Month, an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), recognizes park and recreation professionals and the lasting impact their services have on communities.

Park and recreation services promote the health and fitness of community members as well as provide safe, engaging spaces for individuals and families to experience new things and make memories.

This July, the City of Hickory Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department will host a variety of programs for kids and families of all ages.

Saturday Screenings will be held at the Lowes Foods City Park parking lot at 8:45 p.m. on July 12 and July 26.

Additional programs include bi-weekly Community Jam Nights at Highland Recreation Center and the second session of S.O.A.P. Camp for kids ages 9-15.

At various recreation centers, City of Hickory residents can play basketball, practice pickleball skills, run on the treadmill or lift free weights in fitness centers, or participate in group yoga and strength training classes.

City of Hickory parks, open 365 days a year, are free to access and include pickleball courts, splash pads, playgrounds, walking trails, picnic shelters, and more.
