Martin Luther King Jr. Center and Mulberry Recreation Center to operate on alternating Saturday schedules

Summer is here, and more people are playing outside. With lower indoor attendance at our recreation centers, the City of Lenoir is going to alternate opening the Martin Luther King Jr. Center and Mulberry Recreation Center on Saturdays.

The new schedule will go from July to August.

“We’re fortunate to have two wonderful recreation centers we can use here in Lenoir,” Parks and Recreation Director Phil Harper said. “Having an alternating schedule makes more sense during the summer when more people are enjoying the outdoors. I encourage our residents to check out both facilities.”

The Martin Luther King Jr. Center is located at 313 Greenhaven Drive NW. Mulberry Recreation Center is located at 720 Mulberry Street SW.

The schedule below shows which center will be open and closed. The outdoor amenities at both centers will be open every Saturday.

Staff will open both recreation centers on Saturdays starting in September.

The Martin Luther King Jr. Center and Mulberry Recreation Center have indoor gyms with basketball and pickleball.

The MLK Jr. Center also has:

·         Basketball Courts (indoor and outdoor)

·         Club Room, Game Room, Lounge, Kitchen

·         Computer Lab

·         Exercise Room

·         Gymnasium

·         Playground

·         Pickleball Courts (3 indoor)

·         Shuffleboard Courts (4, lighted)

·         Restrooms

·         Social Hall

·         Tennis Courts (2 asphalt, lighted)

·         Weight Room

Mulberry Recreation Center amenities include:

·         Baseball/Softball Fields (3, lighted)

·         Basketball Courts (indoor, outdoor)

·         Game Room

·         Gymnasium

·         Playground

·         Pickleball Courts (12 outdoor, 3 indoor)

·         Picnic Shelters & Tables

·         Restrooms

·         Skate Park

·         Tee-Ball Fields (2)

·         Tennis Courts (2, lighted)
