In early July 2025 the Morganton Department of Public Safety began receiving reports of unpaid wages from Subway Restaurant Employees. The case was assigned to the Morganton Criminal Investigations Division for investigation. During the investigation it was determined that payroll checks of some employees were not being paid due to insufficient funds. Investigators determined that the Subway locations in question were owned by William Albert Parrish of 301 Louise Ave. Valdese. Investigators spoke with Parrish regarding the incidents and Parrish stated that there was a resolution in place and that employees would be paid the following week. On July 17, 2025 Investigators contacted Parrish again and discovered that no resolution was reached and employees had still not been paid. Warrants have been issued for nine counts of worthless check and there are more charges pending.
