Town of Longview announces new Chief of Police

PRESS RELEASE: Town of Longview

The Town of Long View is proud to officially announce the appointment of Justin Reid as our new Chief of Police effective August 1st, 2025.
Chief Reid brings with him 15 years of dedicated law enforcement experience and a clear, community-first vision for the future of public safety in Long View.

Chief Reid began his career in 2010 at the Lenoir Police Department, where he served in numerous roles, including Patrol Officer, K-9 Handler, Field Training Officer, Special Response Team Member, and Supervisor. He joined the Long View Police Department in 2020 as a Patrol
Officer/K-9 Handler and quickly rose through the ranks, serving as Sergeant, Training Coordinator, and as Major/Deputy Chief for the last 3 years.

Throughout his career, Chief Reid has completed nearly 3,000 hours of professional training and holds multiple certifications, including an Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate and General Instructor certifications from the North Carolina Training and Standards Commission. He’s also a graduate of the NC Justice Academy’s Leadership Institute and a certified Firearms Instructor.

Chief Reid is a proud husband and father of four. Outside of the badge, you’ll find him enjoying time with his family—whether it’s cheering on his children at ball games, swimming, or grilling out in the backyard.

As Chief, his vision is rooted in prevention, preparedness, and partnership. He’s committed to leading a department that works proactively with the community, focusing on fair enforcement, building trust, and preventing crime before it starts. Under his leadership, the Long View Police
Department will remain visible, engaged, and focused on keeping our town a safe and welcoming place for all.

Please join us in congratulating Chief Justin Reid as he steps into this important new role!

Following Chief Reid’s promotion, Dennis Hardin will be promoted to Major/Deputy Chief and Davey Anderson will be promoted to Operations Captain.
