RALEIGH — The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Economic Opportunity is seeking applications from qualified nonprofit organizations to become designated Community Action Agencies in North Carolina.
Designated Community Action Agencies (CAAs) deliver anti-poverty programs such as housing support, workforce development, emergency aid, and financial literacy services. Organizations who become CAAs are provided access to Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) funding, state resources, and technical assistance. To be considered, applications must be submitted by close of business on Aug. 29, 2025.
The Office of Economic Opportunity will host three information sessions about the designation process. Interested applicants are encouraged to register to attend an information session.
- Mon., Aug. 11 from 1 – 2:30 p.m.
- Wed., Aug. 13 from 9 – 10:30 a.m.
- Tues., Aug. 19 from 10 – 11:30 a.m.
Administered at the state level, CSBG funding was created through the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 to promote and provide an array of services and activities to reduce poverty, revitalize low-income communities, and empower low-income families and individuals to become self-sufficient.
Up to three organizations will be selected for underserved or newly eligible areas in Chatham, Durham, Orange and Randolph counties. Applicants must demonstrate strong organizational capacity, local engagement, and alignment with the mission.
