On Tuesday the U.S. Marshals Service announced the arrest of 40-year-old Ricky Dean Clinton, who was wanted on multiple charges, including human trafficking of a child and related sex offenses. Clinton was captured following an exchange of gunfire at a residence in eastern Burke County.
Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office issued warrants for Clinton’s arrest Monday, on charges that include human trafficking with a child, indecent liberties with a child, first-degree kidnapping, sexual servitude of a minor, delivery of a controlled substance to a minor, and statutory rape.
When authorities attempted to take him into custody, Clinton opened fire, prompting authorities to return fire. Clinton was struck during the encounter and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. No U.S. Marshals were injured.
No further information has been made available. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing.
