Foothills Conservancy Welcomes New Communications Manager

Foothills Conservancy of North Carolina (FCNC) recently welcomed Katy Abrams as the land trust’s new Communications Manager, an addition to the Marketing and Development team that underscores the organization’s commitment to expanding its presence and strengthening connections to the communities it serves.

Abrams will manage FCNC’s print and digital communications to boost awareness and support for the organization’s conservation, public access, stewardship, and community engagement programs. She will focus on projects that enhance communication with partners, supporters, donors, constituents, and the public to showcase the organization’s work, raise funds, and engage diverse stakeholders.

“I am thrilled to join such an incredibly dedicated team and look forward to supporting conservation efforts for the special places that mean so much to this region,” said Abrams. “This exciting role allows me to connect my passion for writing with my desire to serve the community I love.”

Abrams, a graduate of Appalachian State University and longtime Western North Carolina resident, brings nearly two decades of experience in marketing and communications to the role. She most recently served as Executive Editor of Insight Into Academia magazine and has been a member of the Appalachian State University English department faculty since 2016.

“Katy’s strong and varied background in multiple forms of outreach and communications, from managing and editing print publications, to handling social media channels, written storytelling, creating digital content, and even teaching writing at the university level, uniquely positions her to oversee Foothills Conservancy’s outreach to allow our organization to continue to foster trust, demonstrate value, and create a broad base of support for land conservation. She is a terrific addition to our team, and I know that everyone at the Conservancy is excited to work with her,” said Andrew Kota, Executive Director.
