Caldwell County School Superintendent Dr. Don Phipps will be leaving his post after it was announced last week that he has been named the new school superintendent for Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools effective December 1st.
Phipps, who has been Superintendent of Caldwell County Schools since 2018 and was named North Carolina Superintendent of the Year in 2023, accepted a 15 month contract that is designed to give Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School board time to conduct a comprehensive search for its long-term superintendent.
The WS/FCS website noted that as superintendent of Caldwell County Schools, Phipps successfully strengthened the district’s fiscal footing and advanced student achievement, and has built a reputation for navigating complex budget environments with discipline and transparency.
The Caldwell County Board of Education announced they would will immediately begin the process of finding a replacement for Phipps.
