Catawba County has announced its annual fall cleanup event, encouraging residents to properly dispose of hazardous household items. The event, open to local residents, is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory, according to the City of Hickory.
Accepted items include styrofoam, paints, automotive products, pesticides, electronics, and household cleaners such as oven cleaners, disinfectants, and pine cleaners. The event is organized by Catawba County Utilities and Engineering in collaboration with the City of Hickory as part of a community cleanup program.
The event will not accept certain items. Excluded materials include tires, radioactive waste, biologically active materials, and explosives. Household garbage, business waste, and electronics with broken screens or missing parts are also not accepted.
Catawba County residents can use the Blackburn Landfill year-round to dispose of items such as paint, electronics, and household batteries. These services are available during regular landfill hours and are provided free of charge.
The collection event is part of local authorities’ efforts to manage public health and environmental safety. Residents seeking more information can contact Catawba County Utilities and Engineering at 828-465-8217 or visit their website.
