Foothills Veterans Winter Stand Down set for Nov. 13th

Veterans from Caldwell and surrounding counties are invited to the Foothills Veterans Winter Stand Down on Thursday, November 13, at the J.E. Broyhill Civic Center in Lenoir. Doors will open at 8 a.m., with the main event beginning at 9 a.m.
The Foothills Winter Veterans Stand Down is not just another event; it’s a day of solidarity and support for area veterans, made possible through generous donations. Veterans and their caregivers will enjoy a free breakfast upon arrival, setting the stage for a day filled with valuable resources, connections, and support.
Retired Brigadier General Ken Beard, co-chair of the Winter Stand Down Planning Committee, expressed the significance of the event, stating, “This is one day all of the veterans can come together and have camaraderie with other veterans and community organizations.”
Over 40 resource providers, including various veterans’ organizations, will be present offering a comprehensive array of services and support to address veterans’ needs. Some of the services available include:
  • Medical Services
  • Employment Assistance
  • Education Opportunities
  • Resources and Information
  • Assistance with Filing Veterans Claims
  • Optometry Services
  • Blood Pressure Checks
  • Massage Therapy
  • Veterans Discount Cards and Passport Information
A free lunch, served food court style, will be available to all attendees, providing a comfortable environment for veterans to relax, recharge, and connect with their peers.
For the convenience of attendees, Greenway Transportation will offer shuttles to help transport people from the parking lot to the Civic Center. For veterans who live in Caldwell County, Greenway will also offer transportation to the stand down.
