On 6/2/2025 Morganton Department of Public Safety Officers were dispatched to Rutherford Electric (614 Carbon City Rd), in reference to a breaking and entering.
Morganton Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene for further investigation. During the investigation it was determined that chainsaws and other arborist equipment were stolen. Investigators seized evidence located at the scene and submitted them to the lab for analysis.
On 9/22/2025 MDPS received another report of breaking and entering at the same address. During this break-in similar items were stolen.
As the investigation continued, the Morganton Criminal Investigations Division identified a suspect, Bynum Lee Little Jr. of Nebo. On 11/14/2025 warrants were issued on Little for Breaking and Entering, Larceny after B&E and damage to real property.
Little is currently being held at the McDowell County Jail for similar crimes committed in McDowell County. Little will be served the warrants for crimes committed in Morganton while in custody of the McDowell County Jail. At this point in the investigation the stolen items have not been recovered.
