The City of Lenoir City Council will hold public hearing tonight, Tuesday January 6th.
One hearing is to discuss their intention to apply for a Brownfields Clean-Up Grant, to be used for the environmental clean-up of the “old Broyhill Site” located at 1429 College Ave., SW.
The Brownfields Program Grants are administered through the US Environmental Protection Agency, and collaborates with federal partners and state agencies to provide direct funding for a variety of public and private Brownfields related projects.
The 15-acre, former Broyhill furniture site was acquired by the city through foreclosure after Applied Abatement Concepts, who purchased the property in 2009, went bankrupt and abandoned the site.
Part of the property is currently being used as a collection site for debris as a result of Hurricane Helene.
