The Burke County Opioid Response Team issues statement on increased overdose incidents

Burke County, NC — The Burke County Opioid Response Team has been alerted to an increase in serious overdose incidents within the county, believed to be associated with a potentially contaminated drug supply.

Burke County officials want to make residents aware that free    is available in the community. Naloxone is a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose and save lives when administered quickly.

Residents can obtain free naloxone by contacting the Burke County Community Navigator at 828-842-1532.

Naloxone is also available through the Community Health Vending Machine located at Catawba Valley Healthcare, 205 Morgan Street SE, Valdese.

In addition to naloxone distribution, Burke County offers peer support services for individuals affected by substance use. Peer Support Specialists are available to provide support, connect individuals with treatment and recovery resources, or simply talk.

Anyone seeking assistance for themselves or someone they know can contact the Peer Support Line at 828-842-1531.

Burke County encourages residents to remain vigilant, avoid using drugs alone, and seek help immediately if an overdose is suspected. If an emergency occurs, call 911 without delay.
