69 year old John Anthony Pons, Sr., of 2230 Misti Brook Lane in Morganton, was arrested at Catawba Memorial Hospital on Sunday, February 22, 2026, by the Burke County Sheriff’s Office and the Warrant for Arrest was served charging him with Felony False Bomb Report. He was transported to the Burke County Magistrate’s Office, where he was issued a $5,000.00 secured bond. His first court appearance was set for today February 23, 2026.
The arrest stems from a report of a bomb threat at a property on Misti Brooke Lane on Friday the 20th at approximately 9:00 am. The property owner, who was not at home at the time, received the threat by phone.
The State Bureau of Investigation Bomb Squad was called to assist, and the property was searched, but no explosive device was found. After learning that Pons made the phone call, attempts to locate the suspect were unsuccessful, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The Burke County Sheriff’s office has not indicated whether the property on Misti Brooke Lane where the bomb threat was received, and the residence of Pons are the same. No further details regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident has been made available.
