Caldwell County Public Library Director Announces Retirement

LENOIR, N.C. — Caldwell County announces the retirement of its Public Library Director Leslie Griffin, who has served the county with dedication, innovation, and a deep commitment to community engagement since joining the Caldwell County Public Library in June 2017.
Griffin began her service to Caldwell County as an Adult Services Librarian before being named Technical Services Librarian in 2019. She was appointed Interim Library Director in February 2020 and officially became Library Director in June 2021.
Her leadership was especially notable during the COVID‑19 pandemic, when Griffin and her team developed innovative methods to safely continue providing materials, programs, and services during a time of unprecedented challenges. Drawing on lessons learned through that period, she guided the library in evaluating and adjusting services, collections, spaces, and programming to better meet the diverse and evolving needs of Caldwell County residents.
Working closely with the Caldwell County Board of Commissioners, Griffin helped implement fine‑free book checkouts, improving access and removing barriers for all library patrons. She also oversaw the opening of the new Southern Branch, expanding library services and resources to more residents.
Griffin’s career in library service began in 2006 with the District of Columbia Public Library, where she served as Library Associate, Librarian, Branch Manager, and Adult Services Manager before relocating to North Carolina in 2017. Throughout her 20 years in public libraries, she has been passionate about serving communities and proud to work alongside the dedicated team at the Caldwell County Public Library.
Caldwell County extends its sincere appreciation to Griffin for her years of service and leadership and wishes her the very best in retirement. Griffin’s last day with the county will be February 28.
