Hickory: Steve Miller promoted to Assistant City Manager

HICKORY – City Manager Warren Wood has promoted Public Works Director Steve Miller to serve as an Assistant City Manager for the City of Hickory.

Miller began his career with the City of Hickory in August 1993 and has served the organization for more than 32 years in a variety of roles, including Street Division Manager, Assistant Public Services Director, and, most recently, Public Works Director since November 2020.

A 1991 graduate of Appalachian State University with a degree in Political Science, Miller is a past president of the North Carolina American Public Works Association – Streets Division and serves as the Kenworth neighborhood liaison.

Throughout his career, he has been involved in numerous city teams and major public infrastructure projects, including bond program improvements, building upgrades, and multiple park enhancement projects.

In his new role as Assistant City Manager, Miller will oversee Public Works, Public Utilities, and the Office of Business Development.

City Manager Warren Wood emphasized Miller’s deep experience and strong leadership, stating, “Steve brings decades of knowledge, proven leadership, and an unwavering commitment to exceptional customer service. His understanding of our infrastructure needs and his dedication to serving the Hickory community make him an outstanding choice for this role.”

Miller shared his appreciation for the opportunity, saying, “I’m humbled and honored to continue to serve the City of Hickory in this new role and look forward to the challenge it brings.”
