The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, along with the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal, and North Carolina Department of Insurance, responded to investigate a fatal fire at 38 Royal Russell Road in Taylorsville.
The call was initially reported as a welfare check at the residence. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a deceased individual inside the home, along with evidence indicating that a fire had occurred. There were no visible flames or exterior signs of fire when deputies arrived on scene. At this point in the investigation there is no signs of foul play.
The victim has been identified as Sally Marshall Lackey, 67, of Taylorsville.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
