The state wide burn ban issued by the North Carolina Forest Service and local bans issued by all Catawba Valley/Unifour counties remain in effect until further notice.
The N.C. Forest Service tracks daily fire activity using a database known as “Signal 14.” The data from Signal 14 is a rapid approximation of wildfire occurrence. This information does not include uncontained fires or fires that occur on federal property. Most recent Signal 14 statistics show that for the month of April there have been 724 fires reported on private and state-owned land, with 1677.9 acres burned. The year to date totals show 3875 fires reported with 9477.7 total acres burned.
