Wild Chase Ends in Hickory

According to the Morganton News Herald, a Morganton man led police on a wild chase that reached 100 mph for nearly 30 miles. Gary Allen Hutchinson the second, 33, had been reported to have stolen a Honda Civic around 9:15 Wednesday night and soon after a Burke County officer spotted the vehicle and began pursuit. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and the N.C. State Highway Patrol joined the chase on N.C. Highway 10 in Catawba County, according to the release. Highway Patrol deployed spike strips, which caused some of the Civic’s tires to deflate. Hutchinson slowed down and surrendered after turning onto N.C. Highway 127 in Hickory. The deputy charged Hutchinson with felony fleeing to elude arrest and felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Hutchinson was given a $28,000 secured bond and was placed in a local jail.
