McDowell County Under State of Emergency, Flooding could impact Burke County

The Morganton News Herald Reports Governor Roy Cooper declared a state of emergency for McDowell County on Tuesday. The state of emergency will help the state coordinate storm response and prepare for additional impact. Residents near Lake Tahoma dam were evacuated when the dam was declared an imminent Tuesday morning. They were allow to return to their homes Wednesday after engineers declared the structure was safe. Burke County Officials are looking at how the flooding in McDowell County could affect the area.  Fire Marshall Mike Willis told the Morganton News Herald the water release in McDowell County is making its way to the Catawba River and eventually to Burke County.  County Official expect Lake James to catch most of the excess water.
