Update – January 5, 2020 @ 6:00 p.m.
On January 3, 2020 at approximately 3:30 p.m., investigators with the Newton
Police Department arrested 18 year old Jordon Martes Thompson of Claremont, NC for Felony
Conspiring to a Commit Robbery with a Firearm or Other Dangerous Weapon. Thompson was
arrested without incident, processed and placed in the Catawba County Jail under a $25,000.00
secured bond with a first appearance scheduled for Monday, January 6, 2020 in Newton District
Court. Other arrests and potential charges are pending.

Update – On January 2, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. Officers with the Newton Police Department took a
16 year old male juvenile into custody for Felonious Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting
Serious Injuries and Attempted Robbery. The juvenile was apprehended without incident and
turned over to Juvenile Services to be transported to the Juvenile Detention Center. Other
arrests and potential charges are pending. The victim of this shooting is currently in stable
condition at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Original Report – On January 2, 2020 at approximately 3:22 a.m., officers with Newton Police
Department responded to 323 E. K Street, Newton, in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival,
officers located a 17 year old male juvenile who had been shot in the leg. This does not appear
to be a random shooting and the victim does know the individual who is responsible. The
suspect(s) fled the scene prior to the officer’s arrival. The victim was transported by Catawba
County EMS to the Catawba Valley Medical Center and later transferred to Wake Forest Baptist
Medical Center in Winston-Salem. The condition of the victim is unknown at this time.
