The North Carolina State Highway Patrol responded to an airplane crash in Catawba County Thursday at a home on South Olivers Crossroads. A single-engine plane was attempting to land at Laneys Airport near Maiden, overshot the runway, attempted to take back off, struck several trees and crashed into the backyard of a residence. The pilot and a passenger were transported by Catawba County EMS to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville with minor injuries. The FAA will conduct an investigation.
