There was a fatal collision in Burke County on I-40 near Mile Marker 111 Tuesday night. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, a motorcycle traveling west in the right lane attempted to merge and struck a vehicle traveling in the left lane. The driver of the motorcycle, 28-year-old Matthew Dewayne Lunsford of Morganton, was transported by EMS to UNC Health Blue Ridge, in Morganton, where he died from his injuries.
