Caldwell Arts Council is pleased to announce the winners of the 38th Annual Sculpture.
Celebration as judged by Brent Skidmore of Asheville, NC. Held on September 7, 2024 at the
Broyhill Walking Park in Lenoir, NC, sculptors from as far away as New York, Pennsylvania, and
Puerto Rico competed for a total of $11,000 in cash prizes. This event was funded by generous
sponsors and by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and
Cultural Resources.
Best in Show ($3000): “Here Where the Soil was Bare” by Julie Slattery of Asheville, NC
First Place ($2000): “Terra Form (Earthwork)” by Crista Cammaroto of Charlotte, NC
Second Place ($1500): “Gold and Silver Leach” by Staton Davis of Morgantown, WV
Third Place ($1000): “Dirty Bird – Pigeon River/Walters Dam” by Matt West of Swannanoa, NC
Judge’s Merit Award (five awards at $500 each)
“Taking Flight” by Amanda Szot of Boone, NC
“A Distant Calling” by Harry McDaniel of Asheville, NC
“Inhale” by Keith Bryant of Charlotte, NC
“Celestial Serenade” by Lawrence Feir of Greensboro, NC
