CONOVER, N.C. (WBTV) – A 75-year-old convicted murderer from Conover will spend close to 10 more years in prison after stabbing two people and injuring a toddler.
Jimmy Lee Randolph pleaded guilty on Jan. 13, 2025, to two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and one count of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. The charges came from an attack on Sept. 22, 2023.
According to court records, Randolph spent 33 years in prison for a 1990 murder conviction and while on post-release, got a job and met a woman. She helped him with adjusting to life outside of prison and he helped her with some financial obligations, according to the district attorney’s office.
The woman later began to date another man.
The woman and her boyfriend were trying to enter his apartment when they were attacked by Randolph, according to court records. Randolph knocked the man to the ground and stabbed him with a 13-inch kitchen knife.
During the attack, the man was holding his 3-year-old son. The toddler was knocked from his father’s arms and hit by the knife.
Randolph then stabbed the woman in the back and then called police and told dispatchers about the attack.
He was sentenced to eight to 11 years in prison.
