On June 18, 2025, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office was contacted in reference to an incident that occurred during a supervised outing by the staff of the J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Center. The group had traveled to a local park in Burke County for a recreational activity involving residents of the facility.
During the outing, it was reported that two staff members assaulted two different residents of the center. Following an investigation, Zolio Collado, Jr. was charged with (M) Assault on an Individual with Disability and given a $20,000 secured bond with a court date of 08/18/2025. Benny Edward Brice, IV was charged with (F) Assault on an Individual with Disability and given a $50,000 secured bond with a court date of 06/23/2025.
