Town of Granite Falls celebrates Public Power Week, October 5th – 11th

Granite Falls, North Carolina – The Town of Granite Falls is excited to join more than 2,000 community-owned, not-for-profit electric utilities across the United States in celebrating Public Power Week, October 5-11, 2025. Public Power Week is an opportunity to recognize the reliable, affordable, and environmentally friendly electricity that public power utilities provide to 55 million Americans across 49 states and five U.S. territories.

As a public power provider, the Town of Granite Falls is committed to delivering reliable electric service to our community. In 2024, the Town’s Average Service Availability Index, as reported through the American Public Power Association, indicated that electric service was available an impressive 99.995% of the time for all customers. This reliability is a testament to our dedicated local crews, who ensure quick restoration after outages and embody our commitment to “Neighbors Serving Neighbors.”

Town Manager Daniel Cobb stated, “Public Power Week is a time to recognize the Town’s dedication to delivering electricity that is reliable, affordable, and environmentally responsible. It’s also an opportunity to showcase the value of public power that includes energy that is locally produced, community-owned, and designed to put the people of Granite Falls first.”

The Town of Granite Falls is also proud to be one of the most environmentally friendly power providers in North Carolina. The Town, along with 18 other North Carolina public power communities, receives energy from the North Carolina Municipal Power Agency Number 1 (NCMPA1). NCMPA1 owns 75% of a generating unit at the Catawba Nuclear Station, which provides over 97% of our energy needs. Additionally, more than 1% of our energy comes from hydroelectric sources, making over 98% of the Town’s electricity emissions-free.

“We take great pride in serving the people of Granite Falls,” added Cobb. “Because our customers are also our friends and neighbors, we are deeply committed to excellent customer service and delivering the most reliable power possible. For 110 years, we’ve been honored to serve this community, and we remain dedicated to upholding the highest standards of safety and reliability.”

To celebrate Public Power Week and show appreciation to our customers, the Town of Granite Falls will host a Customer Appreciation Day at the Town Office on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Light refreshments and free promotional items will be available while they last.

Today, the Town of Granite Falls provides electric service to 2,239 residential customers and 403 commercial and industrial customers. As we look to the future, we remain committed to “Powering Our Community” with safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible electricity.
