Born in 2011 as a Saturday morning sports talk show that aired only during the High School Football season, The Scoreboard was so well received that the following season the show was introduced as a year-round program. In the years since its inception The Scoreboard has strived to bring the best local, regional and national guests to the Catawba Valley sports fans while telling the stories of our local teams, players and coaches. Numerous high school and NJCAA athletes, coaches and administrators have been guests on the show as has countless nationally recognized guests including:

  • Super Bowl quarterbacks like Jake Delhomme and NFL Hall of Famer, Jim Kelly.
  • Carolina Panthers MIke Rucker, Brad Hoover and legendary broadcaster, Mick Mixon.
  • Hall of Fame College Coaches Jerry Moore from Appalachian State and the late Bobby Bowden from Florida State.
  • Current coaches such as Dave Doeren (NC State Football), Mack Brown (UNC Football), Dustin Kerns (ASU Basketball), Kermit Smith (ASU Baseball) and multiple other coaches from championship programs in our area such as Western Carolina, Lenoir Rhyne, East Carolina and others.

David Jones, Jeff Link and Justin – your KICKS Sports Team – take great pride in being the longest running, most listened to, most trusted and most popular weekend sports talk show in Northwest North Carolina history!

David Jones is a 1993 graduate of Hibriten High School where he was a four-sport athlete and multiple time captain. He had the opportunity to play Division III College Football and played semi-professionally. David joined the KICKS Sports Team in 2010 handling sideline and postgame duties for High School Football broadcasts. In 2012 he joined the booth as color commentator and analyst and in 2014 he assumed play-by-play duties becoming the Voice of High School Football in the Catawba Valley. He has been the primary host of The Scoreboard since its inception in 2011, joined later by Justin Carton and Jeff Link. David was privileged to be on the call for the first High School Football State Championship in Caldwell County history when his alma mater, Hibriten, won the 2017 2AA title and was providing color commentary and analysis alongside Jeff Link when South Caldwell won the first High School Softball State Championship in 2019. He has also called high school basketball and American Legion baseball games and has provided Public Address duties at various venues. He is a member of the National Sports Media Association and votes on numerous state and national awards including the Bear Bryant College Football Coach of the Year Award.

David has been married to Jessica since 1999 and the two have four daughters. When not talking about sports on the radio David enjoys teaching an adult Sunday School class, writing songs and working on his first book about sportscasting.

The Daily Sports update is a Monday through Friday two-minute sprint through the most important scores, stories and updates from the Catawba Valley. Airing at 6:45, 7:45 and 8:45 each weekday morning, the Daily Sports Update gives sports fans in the Valley all the local high school scores from the night before along with college and professional updates about the teams we follow most closely. NASCAR updates and occasional interesting tidbits from ‘this day in sports history’ are also frequently featured during the update.
