One person was killed in a weekend house fire in Catawba County. Firefighters from Newton, Conover and Maiden responded to the call at 509 West 9th Street in Newton just after midnight Sunday morning.
During extinguishment and searches of the residence, search crews discovered the remains of one occupant. The name of the occupant has not been released. The cause of the fire remains under investigation
