Three people were rescued from the Catawba River near Lake James Monday evening according to the Morganton News Herald. Michael Day and Barbie Beck of South Carolina were both in kayaks while Jahmar Efird of Georgia was in an inflatable raft. Day lost his paddle after entering the river. He was rescued near the dam on Powerhouse Road. Beck was rescued second and Efird who was on the raft without a paddle took longer to find and rescue. No one was injured during the rescue.
