The National Fire Protection Association reports 1630 home cooking fires occurred on Thanksgiving in 2018. The Burke County Assistant Fire Marshal Robert Bishop reminds people not to leave stoves, fryers and grills unattended during holiday cooking. Fires in the kitchen were the second leading cause of home fire deaths from 2014-2018. Bishop also encourages you to have chimneys inspected by a reputable company this season.
