A 19-year-old man, Trevaris Devar Kennedy from Statesville, has been arrested by Iredell County Sheriff’s officers and charged with felony flee to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, along with multiple misdemeanors. The charges include three counts of child abuse, carrying a concealed gun, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, and traffic counts. The arrest was made on Tuesday after Iredell County Sheriff’s Narcotics Detectives observed a narcotics transaction during surveillance on Taylorsville Highway. The deputy attempted to stop the suspect vehicle on Interstate 40 eastbound, but the driver, Kennedy, fled at high speed, leading to a pursuit that ended in the backyard of a residence on 9th Street. Kennedy fled on foot but was apprehended by officers who found 39 grams of marijuana and a loaded handgun in his vehicle. Three juveniles were in the car during the pursuit, and one of them is also facing charges through Juvenile Services. Kennedy remains in jail under $75,000 secured bond, with a court appearance scheduled for April 3.
