The Burke County sheriff’s department reports arresting a Morganton man on several felony and misdemeanor charges. 33-year-old Charles David Gilmore Jr. Was taken into custody on June 9th after officers observed him get into a vehicle in Icard, and then Gilmore is said to have fled deputies when they attempted to conduct a traffic stop, which resulted in a high-speed chase. Deputies say that a 9mm pistol was thrown from the window of the car as well as $7,500 in cash during the chase before the vehicle crashed. Gilmore was jailed under a $453,000 secured bond. Due to the chase and subsequent crash, 4 law enforcement agencies in burke and Catawba Counties were involved and two emergency services agencies.
