A high-speed pursuit ended in a crash Thursday after a driver fled from Burke County deputies, according to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop on January 29 after observing a black passenger vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. The driver refused to stop, prompting a pursuit that ended when the vehicle crashed at the intersection of Playmore Beach Road and Nick Road.
The driver, identified as 43-year-old Christopher Dale Shell, was taken into custody at the scene.
Shell was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, misdemeanor failure to heed a light or siren, speeding, reckless driving with wanton disregard, driving left of center, failure to stop at a stop sign or flashing red light, and failure to maintain lane control.
He was also served with two outstanding warrants for felony larceny of a motor vehicle under a true bill of indictment and failure to appear or comply.
Shell received a $25,000 secured bond for the new charges, a $20,000 secured bond for the felony indictment, and a $264 cash bond for the failure to appear or comply warrant. He made his first court appearance on January 29 and is scheduled to return to court on February 19th.
