NEWTON, NC – On June 10, 2024 at approximately 3:15 p.m., the Newton Police Department
received a call from a citizen in reference to a shooting that had just occurred at the corner of
South Brady Avenue and East A Street in Newton. When officers arrived on the scene, there
was a male subject inside a vehicle stopped at the stop sign suffering from an apparent gunshot
wound. Newton Police Officers along with Catawba County EMS and the Newton Fire
Department attempted to remove the subject from the vehicle to perform lifesaving measures.
The male subject did succumb to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Newton
Police Officers, Catawba County Sheriff’s Deputies and the North Carolina State Highway Patrol
quickly secured the scene and set up a perimeter where a male subject was subsequently taken
into custody without further incident.
This appears to be an isolated incident and there is not a continued threat to the public. At this
time, the names of the possible suspect and victim will not be released until the next of kin has
been notified and charges have been obtained. As more information becomes available, the
Newton Police Department will update this release.

Carolina State Highway Patrol, Catawba County Sheriff’s Office, Catawba County EMS, and the
Newton Fire Department.
