CCC&TI Offering Cobra Super Summer Art Camps for Adults

This summer, Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute is offering Cobra Super Summer Art Camps on both the Caldwell and the Watauga Campuses for adults interested in learning more about a variety of art techniques and methods and creative writing. The camps will consist of one three-hour session and are $60 per camp or participants can opt for an “all-in” rate that will cover the cost of all adult sessions offered on the participants campus of choice.

Following is information on Cobra Super Summer Adult Art Camps on the Caldwell Campus in Hudson. Individual camps are $60 or participants can pay $150 and participate in all of the Caldwell Campus camps.

Process Art Explorations: Embracing Creativity in Early Childhood

Monday, June 23 – 9 am – 12 pm

Location: Caldwell Campus, Building H, room: 308

This hands-on, interactive workshop offers the opportunity to dive into the world of process art – a playful and open-ended approach where the experience of making art matters more than the final product. Designed especially for caregivers and educators, this workshop will explore how process art nurtures creativity, confidence, and sensory development in young children. Participants will rotate through a variety of art stations that include splatter painting, nature stamping, printmaking with found objects, and more. For artists of any skill level, this session is all about experimentation, self-expression, and seeing the magic in the mess. Space is limited to 15 participants.

Placing Poetry on the Page: A Class on Creative Writing

Monday, July 7 – 9 am – 12 pm

Instructor: K. Harrison

Location: Caldwell Campus, F Building, Room 220

This creative writing class will focus on the art and science of poetry. Participants will practice writing their own poetry and harnessing the immense power of the English language for self-expression, social commentary or just for fun. Topics will include finding ideas, applying literary devices like metaphors, similes, alliteration and allusion; various poetic styles such as lyric or narrative, using different rhyme schemes as well as free verse and other ways to enhance and refine poetry writing skills. Students should bring their own spiral notebook and pens or pencils and be prepared to have fun, be challenged by the English language, and to place poetry on the page. Space is limited to 20 participants.

Printmaking: Cyanotype and Gyotaku

Monday, July 14 – 9 am – 12 pm

Instructor: T. Thielemann

Location: Caldwell Campus, Building D, Room 103

Participants in this camp will learn about two types of printing, cyanotype and gyotaku. Cyanotype printing is a photographic process that creates blueprints, also known as sun prints, by exposing ultraviolet sensitive paper to sunlight. Students will make up to 5 prints using found objects and/or digital negatives. Participants will be able to create cards or prints for framing with their pieces. Gyotaku is a traditional Japanese art for where a print is made of an object, often an actual fish, by applying ink to its surface and pressing paper or cloth onto the inked surface. Students will be able to practice with news print before doing their final print on a linen bag they’ll be able to take home after class. Space is limited to 10 participants.

Following is information on available Cobra Super Summer Adult Art Camps on the Watauga Campus in Boone: Individual camps are $60 or participants can pay $200 and participate in all of the camps hosted on the Watauga Campus.

Art in Your Pocket: Cell Phone Photography (CSP 7388)

Tuesday, July 8 • 9 am – 12 pm

Location: Watauga Campus, Building W372, Room 100

This class will help participants discover the art of photography using the camera they probably carry every day. This one-day workshop is designed for adult learners who want to explore creative expression through smartphone photography. Learn how to see with an artist’s eye, compose striking images, and use editing apps to enhance your work. Whether you’re new to photography or looking to build your artistic practice in a flexible, accessible way, this hands-on class will inspire participants to create meaningful images from the world around them. Students must bring their own cell phone. Space is limited to 25 participants.
