Catawba man arrest for manufacturing a weapon of mass destruction following explosion

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) announced Thursday the arrest of 34 year old Travis Kyle Bowes. Bowes arrest follows an investigation by the SBI and the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office into an exposition and fire on April 1st at his residence on Shook Rd In Clairmont.
Dave Faherty with WSOC reported that Investigators confirmed that a pipe bomb and other bomb making materials were found inside the home where Bowes and his wife were seriously hurt in the fire. Their 14-year-old daughter and a grandmother were also there but managed to escape without being injured.
Bowes was charged with Felony Manufacturing a weapon of mass destruction, and Felony Possession of a weapon of mass destruction.
Bowes is currently being held in the Catawba County Detention Center under a $325,000 secured bond.
