Hearing set for proposed housing in Lenoir

A proposed residential development moves to its third public hearing scheduled to occur during Lenoir’s city council meeting on Tuesday, April 21.

Connelly Development LLC is seeking a conditional zoning request for 7.3 acres on Seehorn Street. If approved, the project would bring a 68-unit housing complex to the site currently owned by Hamby Brothers Concrete Inc.

The Lenoir Planning Board recommended approval in an 8-1 vote, advising that the CZ-13 multi-family rezoning aligns with the city’s 2045 Comprehensive Plan. The board cited the project’s support for three city priorities which are affordable housing, new development, and enhanced quality of life.

During the last two public hearings held in March, residents in the area have expressed their opposition to the proposal, expressing concerns over traffic issues, an overabundance of apartment complexes, and the impact the proposed complex can have on the character of the community.

In other business, Southern Lawnscapes is slated to be the company in charge of removing all of the existing pavers from the Veterans Plaza, and installing new ones.

Pending City Council approval, Southern Lawnscapes will be awarded $93,550 for the project. This will be financed by funds the city received from the State Capital Infrastructure Fund back in 2024.

The council meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the Alden Starnes County Office Plaza in Downtown Lenoir.
