On Friday, May 8th at approximately 3:23 p.m., The NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision on Mount Pleasant Road, in Catawba County. A 2021 Dodge Charger was traveling on Mount Pleasant Road near Trailwood Drive, drove off the roadway to the right and collided with a concrete culvert. The vehicle then overturned causing three passengers to be entrapped.
The driver of the Dodge, Norman Miller, 65, of Sherill’s Ford, Transported to Catawba Hospital by EMS, with minor injuries.
The front seat passenger, Joshua Freeman, 34, of Oregon, was transported to Catawba Hospital by EMS, with minor injuries.
The back seat passenger, Mary Miller, 57, of Sherill’s Ford, succumbed to her injuries as a result the collision.
Speed or Impairment were not believed to be contributing factors in the collision; however, Mrs. Mary Miller was not wearing her seatbelt during the collision. At this time no charges have been filed.
On Friday, May 8th, at approximately 08:50 p.m., The NC State Highway Patrol responded to and investigated a fatal collision involving a pedestrian on NC 150 near Emerald Isle Drive, in Catawba County. A 2012 Jeep Liberty was traveling East on NC 150 and collided with a pedestrian in the roadway.
The driver of the Jeep, Abigail Wooten, 20, of Kannapolis was not injured.
The pedestrian, Madison Palmer, 27, of North Myrtle Beach succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the collision.
Speed or impairment are not suspected as contributing factors involving Ms. Wooten, but Troopers do suspect Ms. Palmer was possibly impaired at the time of the collision. At this time, no charges have been filed in this case.
During the on-scene investigation, NC 150 was closed for several hours.
