The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) announced that low water levels due to drought conditions have forced the closure of swim beaches at W. Kerr Scott Reservoir until significant rainfall arrives.
The lake dropped to 1,027.67 feet—well below the normal pool of 1,030 feet—delaying the opening of swim areas at Berry Mountain Park, Boomer Park, Fort Hamby, and Bandit’s Roost.
Current Closures & Advisories
- Swim Beaches: Closed indefinitely. Affected parks include Berry Mountain, Boomer, Fort Hamby, and Bandit’s Roost.
- Boat Ramps: Remain open for now, but USACE officials warn that they are actively monitoring the situation. If levels continue to drop, ramps will be forced to close.
- Navigational Hazards: Boaters are urged to use extreme caution. Stumps and rock outcrops that are typically submerged safely are now dangerous hazards.
Operational Status
- Camping & Hiking: Campgrounds (such as Bandit’s Roost and Warrior Creek) and trails remain open, operating under their standard 2026 reservation windows.
- Water Data: You can monitor the exact real-time elevation on the USACE Water Management Dashboard.
