Hudson Walmart evacuated during standoff

On May 1, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Hudson Police Department responded to a reported armed subject at the Walmart Market in Hudson, North Carolina.
The suspect, identified as Alexander Little, 24 years old, contacted the Caldwell County Communications 911 Center and reported that he observed a male subject entering the store with a hand grenade. The caller provided a detailed description of himself and stated that he had witnessed the individual retrieve the grenade from a vehicle and place it in his pocket prior to entering the business.
Upon arrival, officers located the individual inside the store in a shopping aisle and made contact. During the encounter, the subject removed a hand grenade from his pocket. Officers immediately began evacuating the store and established a perimeter while engaging the subject in a standoff.
 During the standoff, the subject made threatening gestures and statements indicating an intent to detonate the device. Responding officers were able to assess that the grenade was inert. Utilizing less-lethal force, officers safely took the subject into custody without injury to the public or first responders.
Alexander Little has been charged with the following:
– Possession of a Weapon of Mass Destruction
– False Bomb Report
– Going Armed to the Terror of the Public
He is currently confined at the Caldwell County Detention Facility under no bond.
