Reckless Driving Crash Causes Power Outage on North Green Street

MORGANTON, NC — The Morganton Department of Public Safety responded to a reckless driving crash early Monday morning on North Green Street.

Just before 2:00 a.m., officers and fire personnel with the Morganton Department of Public Safety, and the Burke County EMS, responded to the 400 block of North Green Street following reports of a single-vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with 21 year-old Aiyanna Mack of Connelly Springs, the driver of a 2011 BMW involved in the collision. Witnesses reported the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed prior to the crash.

During the collision, the vehicle struck a power pole, a no parking sign, and a fire hydrant before traveling approximately 138 feet and coming to rest in the yard of a residence at 419 North Green Street. The crash caused a temporary power outage affecting several nearby blocks.

Mack was charged with speeding 70 mph in a 25 mph zone, reckless driving, and failure to wear a seat belt.

Mack was evaluated by Burke County EMS on the scene and released.
